WordSpit~They The Illest! [Get To Know Them]

1.)What’s a typical day like for the band Word Spit?
A typical day for the band and I would be rehearsing for a gig and brain storming new songs in the studio. We link up often to figure out the next moves we should make. It's a real fun experience when we aren't arguing over the parts to our songs. LoL
2.) Ok so of course I was watching America’s Got Talent and I must say you all did an excellent job.
You all definitely was the [Illest]. Congratulations for making it through the auditions on that show. How was it like performing and preparing for the show as a band for America’s Got Talent?
Thank You. The preperation was extreme because I strive for greatness and nothing less. I tend to push people to their limits. Whether you love it or hate it, you respect it. As far as the show, it's a mix of emotions because you're nervous, excited, and uncertain as to what's going to happen when you take the stage. Performing in front of a sold out crowd is one thing, but to know that you're also rocking for millions of people at home can be stressful. I think we handled it well.

4.) What artist(s) would WordSpit like to work with in the future?
Oh man, I would love to work with too many. Pink Floyd, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas, Natalia Kills, Lady Gaga, 30 seconds to Mars, Lupe, Pharrell... the list goes on.

5.) How did you all come up with the band name?
My name is "WordSpit The ILLest!" so it's a basic play off of that. It was simple and it made sense.

6.) What is it like going out and performing and how do you all handle the stress of the music industry?

Well, every performance has it's unique texture to it. Especially being an artist on the come up. You have days where you're performing in front of thousands and then there are days when you are performing for ten people. I try to attack each show with the same intensity no matter what. As far as the music industry, it's a consistent hassel because you always have to prove yourself. Even when you think you've accomplished something great you have to remember that that's only a stepping stone in the grand scheme of things. I always remember that and it brings me back to earth. It makes me work harder.

7.) What is a quote that you all live by?
"We The ILLest!!" It's my way a life. It reminds me to always give 110%. I don't care if you're straight, gay, working at the drive in, or sweeping the floor... if you give your all, you're "The ILLest"!

8.) What is some music that inspires you all?
We all get influenced by different things, which creates the sound of WordSpit & The ILLest! Whether it's Metal, Jazz, Hip-Hop or R&B. We could sit here for hours discussing this question, lol.

9.) What kind of audience is WordSpit music geared towards?

My audience is the people who aren't scared to be themselves and that's why we relate. My audience knows this isn't just a guy holding a mic rapping about nonsense. I'm giving you my life in my songs. I cater to the people who are looking for change and want something different. I have the skills to appeal to the traditional hiphop listener but I also have the accompanying music to catch the ear of the fan who wouldn't oridinarly listen to rap.

Interview With Upcoming PenStress Ashley S

Ten Things To Know About Ashley S

BIO

Ashley S aka The PENtress is a writer from Georgia who got her start in writing at the age of 11. She wrote in her Diary daily and turned those thoughts into Poetry and also Music. Penning her first book titled 'The Turn Out' last year turned her love for writing into a second career that she has enjoyed since her childhood. Being an Avid Reader she is inspired by the likes of Ms. Maya Angelou
to Ms. Terry McMillan. Her main focus and purpose for writing is to teach each reader a lesson in the books and Poems that she writes in hopes that it inspires them.

1.)Tell us about yourself.

I'm 28 and I was born & raised in Georgia... Originally from Macon. I graduated from American Professional Institute in 2010 in Medical Assisting. My goals as an author is to continue to inspire my readers and also to be signed.

2.) What inspired you to pen your first short story, “The Turn Out?”

This is funny! Lol... To be honest I was watching Basketball Wives one day  and I was seeing the change in Jennifer and Evelyn's friendship and originally The Turn Out was going to be based off that. But I also watched The First 48 religiously so I just put two and two together and penned The Turn Out.

3.)When you’re not writing what do you enjoy doing?

Of course I put my spirituality first before anything. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, reading, singing, dancing, and watching TV. I'm always on YouTube as well lol.
4.)What book are you reading right now?

"No Girl Needs a Husband Seven Days a Week" by Nina Foxx

5.)What are some of the upcoming projects you are working on now?

I'm working on two books. 'Stereotype' and 'Deadbeat Moms'. The titles alone are striking but it's something we see day to day that I felt the need to address because one is basically judged incorrectly  in the Justice System while the other takes advantage of the Justice System thinking they could get away with things. So with both books I hope to open the eyes of those who think it's
ok to either misjudge or abuse the system.

6.) You say you write so people can take a lesson from the words you create. What was the lesson from your short story ‘The Turn Out?’

To not jump to conclusions. Think before reacting because for every action there's a reaction. And to meditate on things before you make a sound decision.

7.)Who are your favorite authors and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I love Ms. Maya Angelou and Ms. Terry McMillan. Ms. Angelou is a poetic queen to me because her words are true and you feel it. Ms. McMillan is a woman that knows how to get her point across whether its in her books or in her movies. I admire both for being strong women of color that defied the odds.
8.)How did you come up with the title?

I came up with the title of The Turn Out by actually reading the first couple of chapters in its beginning stages. I chose that title because at the end of each chapter it would leave you wondering how the unfolding events would turn out so it stuck.

9.)  What is something you would like readers to know about you that no one else knows?

I enjoy the Construction field. Nails, Wood, Bricks, and all. Lol. And decorating!
10.)In five years, where do you see yourself as a person in general?

Making a difference. Married. Living in a Penthouse in New York City on my 10th book and still inspiring others in a large way.

Lady P~The Poet Comin' At Cha

Lady P has a lot to talk about with us today. Let's get to know her and see what we can find out!

BIO
Patrice “Lady P” Rivers is a college graduate of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.  She received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Mass Communications with a focus in print media.  As an author, poetess, writer and blogger, Lady P started her writing career at an early age of nine.  With her vivid and creative imagination, she started out writing short stories then as the years passed; her love for poetry became more passionate.  Writing has always been a part of Lady P and believed that it was a gift from God.  To seal the real deal, she published her first book “A Collection of God’s Word and Motivation” May 2012.  As Lady P continues her passion of writing poetry and stories, she hopes to succeed in what she does and attract people to love her art as well as she enjoys writing it.  Her second poetry book “A Thousand Words, A Thousand Hearts” will be published later on this year 2012

1.)    How do you get in the mental place where you find this deeper interior and write?

-When I write, whether it’s a poem or a story, I have to be really focused.  I like to have peace and quiet when I’m in my room writing.  I tried listening to music, but sometimes that distracts my mind from the creativity flowing from my heart.  Some days I write and some days I don’t, but when I am in that “poetic vibe” my mind turns into this imaginative/poetic machine and my words starts to flow on paper.  So mentally, I definitely have to be focused when my pen is bleeding hard on paper.

2.)    What kind of poems do you like to write?

-The type of poems that I like to write is love/romance, motivational, erotic and adventurous poems.  I want the audience to get a glimpse and taste of my writing on different types and levels of poetry.

3.)    How do you feel when people ask you if your poetry is about you?

-Honesty when people ask me that, I feel pretty honored in a way because a lot of my poems, especially my first book of poetry is mainly about my trials and tribulations I have gone through.   I want people to feel what I’m feeling.  I try to tell the story in my poems and encourage them at the same time.  Poems that I write/wrote that isn’t about me, I just paint an adventurous picture and go with the flow.  But majority of my poems are about me.  I can really get into it while writing.

4.)    What is your dream poetic place to write?

-Oh wow, that’s a very good question.  I have two places in mind actually.  The first dream poetic place I chose is on the roof top of a house because I can look up and see the stars and the moon at night.  It makes me feel more connected to my poetic vibe and then I can be able to flow with my pen and paper.  It feels romantic in a way.  The second place is a huge room that’s closed in and the walls are pink hearts that are cushioned.  So you’ll be able to press your cheek to it and let out a sigh of relief and comfort.  It will also have pink cushioned long chairs with pillows so you can stretch your legs and get comfy while writing.  It will be just me, my pen and paper; pure silence.

5.)     What inspires you to write?

-The creativity of my inner thoughts and vivid imagination inspires me to write.  I can be anywhere and ideas would start to flow in my mind.  I started writing at the age of nine and my parents were amazed at what I was capable of doing.  I started out writing short stories then at the age of fifteen, I began to write poetry.  So I just mainly continued my craft and passion of writing because I’m very creative and have a vivid imagination.

6.)    What do you feel is the future of poetry?

-This is a very deep question.  I would say the future of poetry will consist of the revelation of life and the reason why I say that is because some people are talking about what the afterlife would be like.  I feel that people will be writing about life events and what would happen in the near future.

7.)    What was your first favorite book?
Oh wow….honestly I don’t really remember my first favorite book because as a child I read so many.  However I used to love reading the series of The Baby-Sitters Club books and the Sweet Valley High Jr books.  Thinking about them now brings back great memories.  My grandmother would order them for me and I would kick back in my room and read away!

8.)    What do you want your audience to grasp from your work?
-I want my audience to understand the different types of poetry I write and the creativity spin I put on my poems.  As an artist, you have to be creative and let your mind wonder.  But I really want them to understand that I like to be free with my ink and I like my style to be unique.  Some people write about the same thing.  Anyone can write a simple love or exotic poem and make it sound good.  Good is ok, but you have to put a little bit more seasoning into it and write some twists and turns in it to make the reason wonder and get them really into it.  That’s what I like to do with my poetry; to try and think outside that box a little bit and explore Lady P’s creative side.

9.)    What are your plans for the future as a writer?
-My future plans as a writer is to continue to publish as many books as I can, to reach out to thousands of people by promoting myself and my work and as well as writing tons of poems that my audience would love.  I plan to continue to network with lots of authors and poets and just be the best me I can be.  Being an author and poet is very competitive because you have sooo much talent everywhere, so you just really have to push even harder so your voice can be heard.  As a first-time published author, I still have a lot of learning to do, but I’m happy I’m using my gift.  I thank God for that.

10.)   Do you perform your poetry at open-mics? If so when and where?
-I have never read my poems at any spoken word or open mic events before.  My main goal is to write the poems.  But, I am starting to look into it a little bit and try something different.  Honesty, I’m shy when it comes to reading my poems because I’m asking myself “Are they really going to like what I have to say?”  I’ve heard some good spoken word artists and they are really good.  I’m thinking about planning a spoken word/open mic event in my area at a restaurant and see how that goes.  It will give me a good opportunity to network with people that are poets and spoken word artists in my area.  I also thought about opening up my own business which is having my own poetry spot in Virginia.  This is all future planning and I will see how that will go.

Beautiful Flower

“This is an excerpt from my second book”

Fresh water from

The lips of the dew

Suckling the new life

The new birth of nature

Blossoming into a beautiful creature

That awaits new possibilities of a lullaby

Beauty sustain the inner soul

And the fullness of lips

That breathes a great pasture of positive energy

A beautiful flower she is budding from a tiny

Seed that’s planted in the center of her heart

Forever smiling into the sunlight

This reflects the beauty of her soul

A creature that was born into a world

Of hopes and dreams

Heart filled with gladness of another dimension

Living on cloud 9 where everything is calm

And at peace

She stands still and sits High as she is untouchable

A flower that everyone wants to cherish forever

From the beginning to the ending of existence til

Time stops ticking

Beautiful flower still grows and blossoms through

All the hell and high water

Showing her true colors that welcomes

The souls of everlasting

Her presence stays in the light always

Never fading in the dark skies nor rain

She’s a beautiful flower that remains

That still blossoms

Interview With Ms. Chris Renee

 Interview With Ms.Chris Renee

1.) Could you let the fans know how your journey as a signed author begun?
I actually self published my first book, Karma On Ice.  I’m such a headstrong person that I didn’t even look for a publisher.  I just wrote it and self published it.

2.)    What was the first book you completed under Life Changing Books and what is it about?
Wealthy and Wicked is the first book I have under LCB.  The story is about a woman who is so caught up in herself that she doesn’t care who she steps on to get ahead.  When someone in her life has enough of her bull, they begin to try and move heaven and earth to make her pay.

3.)    At what age did you begin writing?
I’m sure its probably been since I could pick up a pen but the first essay that I remember writing was in 3rd grade and my teacher loved it so much she put it in the hallway so everyone could read it.
4.)    What was it like when you found out your manuscript was chosen to be signed?

When I got the message to call the CEO Azarel I was very excited and very nervous.  She is such an amazing person and spirit she instantly put me at ease.  Soon as I hung up the phone with her, I remember screaming and crying to the top of my lungs.
5.)    What are some things you have learned about the literature industry thus far?
That it is more than just writing a good book.  You have to really grind and hustle in this business.  There are so many books and authors out there and you have to put in serious dedication to be successful.

6.)    What are the most important elements of good writing? According to you, what tools are must-haves for writers?
You must have quite time and devotion.  Shut off all social networks, get a glass of wine or two and light a candle. Just let the words flow
7.)    What are your current/future projects?
As crazy as it sounds, I’m writing 3 books at one time.  My mind is all over the place with ideas and no matter how hard I try, I can’t stop writing.  It’s such an addiction.
8.)     What book(s) / author(s) have influenced your life and writing?
Mildred D. Taylor’s Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, was the book that I read that made me say I wanted to write.  Mama by Terry McMillian is also one of my favs.  I’ve read that book about 10 times.  Each time, I love it more.  Those two authors are so descriptive and the emotion that they put behind their words is just amazing.
9.)     Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I learned that just because I think something is good doesn’t mean the rest of the world will love it.  Sometimes I would submit in chapters that I thought were awesome but the test readers would be like, ummmmm NO! LOL I just thank God that LCB has been so patient and helpful in developing me as a better writer.

Crimsom Footprints by Shewanda Pugh

Crimson Footprints Blub:

When an insecure, bi-racial woman begins a cloak-and-dagger love affair with a Japanese American man, she is intent on keeping her bigoted family in the dark—albeit with devastating consequences. On the night of her brother’s murder, Deena Hammond stumbles upon Takumi Tanaka, lost and on the wrong end of a .32. After rescuing him from the certain fate driving through the hood in a Porsche will bring, a sweet kind of friendship begins. A balm for her grief. Maybe, Deena likes to think, it happened the day her white mother killed her black father. Or maybe, it was always a part of them, like DNA gone bad. Whatever the case, Deena knows that her family would never approve, hell, never acknowledge her fast-growing love for Takumi. And had he never made love to her that way, in that unraveling, soul-searching sort of way, she could’ve done the same. But love’s a devil that way. So, their game begins. One where they hide what they are from everyone. Anyone. And Tak understands this—for now. After all, Deena’s career hinges on the favor of her mentor and boss, his hard-ass of a father. And the Hammond family is already stretched thin with grief. Yet, each step Deena takes toward family and career brings her closer to an acceptance she’s never had. And away from him.

Crimson Footprints
Excerpt
“I wish that I didn’t want my family’s love so bad. I wish I could be one of those people who wore leather jackets and didn’t give a damned.”
Tak shot her a look. “You’d be musty if you wore a leather jacket in this heat.”
Deena grinned. “You know what I mean.”
He shrugged. “Who doesn’t want a decent family, Dee? It’s not much to ask for.”
Tak paused to pluck a seashell from the sand. Chipped and polished by time, it shone under the glint of a fast setting sun. “I don’t know the answers,” he said. “But they seem to be in things like this,” he held up the shell.
She frowned. “I don’t follow.”
He shrugged. “Well think about it. What’s a shell? It’s just a—a hard, protective outer layer.” He hurled it in the ocean. “The same is true with family. They’re an outer layer, a protection from the world. At least that’s what they’re supposed to be.” He paused. “Think about what happens when you screw with an animal that has one of those hard shells. What does he do?”
“He goes into it.”
“Right. He retreats.” He thumbed the shell thoughtfully. “Now imagine if you were to rip the shell off a turtle and expose him. What do you think you’d find?”
Deena cringed. “Something soft and hurting.
“And dead, if not close to it. So, our hypothetical turtle, who’s able to stand our shell transplant, needs another shell, another form of protection. And so do you.” Tak handed the grooved and sand-polished subject to Deena. She looked down at it.
“So, how’ve I been surviving all this time? What’s my shell?”
Tak grinned. “Tell you what. I’ll let you know when I crack it.”

Honest Abe...Get To Know The Poet!

Artist Bio:

Abraham Benjamin a.k.a. Honest Abe, born in Brooklyn, NY, is a
writer/poet, and the author of his first book of poetry, "Unlocked
thoughts of a prophet's temple: Humble Beginnings.” (January 2012). 5 years removed from being on the scene he released his debut indie EP album, Brooklyn's Lost Son: Prelude to the Road 2 Redemption" (July 2011).  And has had his work published in college arts magazines.
(Ex. Antheon,Arts/Creative writing magazine at Kingsborough CC, May '09)  A brother, son, cousin, uncle and loyal to the end friend, he  describes himself as a mind-reacher,  whose main goal “is not to write to incite crimes, but to incite minds with the truth in a world & society full of lies and deception.”  His 1st form of expression wasn't poetry, but music.  He has played guitar off/on for the past 15 years.  Poetry took center stage at the end of highschool after which he’s appeared in such places as Bowery Poetry Club, the legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe, New World Stages in Timeout NY Lounge,449 LA in Harlem,NY and the Arts Garage in Philly.  He’s also been a featured artist at the Time  Square Arts center, Lyrical Revolt IX at La Pregunta Cafe, Bridgeport Innovation center in CT,  at the 2011 Brooklyn Book Festival, various in and out of Tristate venues and has won back to back collegiate slams in the Bowery Poetry club.

1.) Can you tell all the poet fanatics a little about yourself?
Well, I'm a SCorpio, :), I've been writing everything from essays, short stories, songs and as well as poems since bout 9 y/o.   Grew up in a big family, 5 brothers and 1 sister by marriage. Lets see, I'm the youngest of my clan.  I love Strawberries, pepperoni pizza, Roti(Beef, Chicken and curry goat)and Lasagna. Fav. colors are red, black, greeen, blue, khaki and orange.
2.) How long have you been on the poetry scene and where are some places that you have had a chance to perform?
This is my 6th year on the scene.(I started back in 2007) Some places I've performed are the Bowery Poetry club(NYC),
Nuyorican Poets Cafe(NYC) Feat. more than once, The Arts Garage(Philly),Brooklyn College(Brooklyn,NYC),Brooklyn Book fest.,and Bridgeport Innovation center(CT)

3.) Can you tell us what a day in the life of a poet is like and what are some challenges you face?

It can be stressful at times. But for the most part if you allow it to be. If I didn't have the heart and dedication I would of left it alone a long time ago. Slow Progress in the early years and..
Tragedy help you put things and life in perspective in ways I didn't consider. But losing fam and some close friends hurt..though made me stronger in the process.
I've went more than one day during a weeks time w/o eating. Lack of money and low paying feat. don't break bills down any easier. One of the pros of being an indie artist is most def. more control.

4.) Where does your inspiration originate from?
The simple asnswer would be...everything, everywhere and everyone. Mostly its organic and metaphysical in a sense. My friends, family, other artists...
But my mom and God are some of, if not the biggest. And any personal experience I've gone through and overcame the adversity of it.
All those forementioned, keeps my determined and creative spirit alive and going.

5.) At what age did you first pick up the pen?
It was around the age of 9/10. Of course a lot of my reading help in my writing getting stronger as time passed.
6.) Who are some writers that you enjoy reading?
The ones I grew up on like Langston Hughes, MArcus Garvey, DuBoise, Edgar Allen Poe, Maya Angelou,
to Gil Scot-Heron, Tennessee Williams, Yeats, Tongo-Eisen, Justinah McFadden, Tshaka Campbell, Taalam Acey, Knickie D.,Melanie "YeYo" Carter, Ainsley Burrows to name a few.

7.) What are some upcoming projects you have coming up?
There are two books and two CD's in the works at the moment. I'll reveal the titles and release dates at a later time. A few behind the scenes projects.
And my first poetic music video. Of which piece of mine and when...TBA and TBD.
8.) Describe some of your work to us?
Unauthodox. But very relatable despite the genre. From love, erotica, politics, socially, economically, death, persona pieces...etc. I pull no punches.  And if its a topic I'm "poppin' my cherry" on...I love a challenge and will definitely GO IN on. You could consider it a Honesty with no filter style.

9.) Do you have any books out? Or, any poetry on cd?
Yes. I have a book and a CD out. The Book is called, Unlocked Thoughts of a Prophet's Temple: HUmble Beginnings.  Which is kinda autobigraphical. With a narrative passage and select collection of Poems.   Based off my upbringing and starting years performing. My Debut CD, Brooklyn's Lost Son:Prelude to the Road 2 Redemption...is also autobiographic in a sense bout my bouts with self doubt and hardships in life and poetry up to this point. Where my road 2 redemption really begins in discovering more and being on track fulfilling my purpose.

10.) What do you consider to be your main successes so far?
One of the biggest successes of mine so far would have to be....being alive at the age of 28. Most that come from where I do in Brooklyn, are lucky to see 25.
Otherwise, performing live at the Brooklyn Book festival last year(2011) and have my parents there to see it.

11.) Do you have any personal philosophies?
One would be, no matter how younger or older someone is in reference to me, I still feel I can learn something from them. For the simple fact, I don't know everything or perceive to.
Another is, life ain't a bell of roses. Which I adopted from my mom and learned at an early age. Whats done in the dark will come to the light.
Underestimation by others can bring out the best in you. And I don't do something productive, and/or affect someones life in a positive way in a 24hr period every day...
I feel like I've waste a day of existence here on earth.
12.) What advice would you offer to someone hoping to take up a similar interest to yourself?
You have to have will, determination and faith. As well as mental stamina most times or you will be broken easily. And don't give into the myth of "writers block". if you start writing something the feel stuck...let it marinate and come back to it.
Another thing of importance, read...a lot. Learn the business side of this artistic discipline early to not get taken advantage of. Follow the pros and learn from the cons of your predecessors. And surround yourself with a positive, supportive circle.

13.) Where can poet fan’s catch you performing doing the week and weekend’s?

I'm usually at some local Brooklyn open mics and others that go on weekly and monthly. Like Brooklyn Nights at Nicholas 2nd saturdays, downtown BK, 570 Fulton st. and Inspired Word Every wed. at 116 McDougal st. in Manhattan. and Street Poets Den 3rd Fridays in Bedstuy Brooklyn.

13 Years

I lost count how many times

I've contemplated suicide since 13 y/o.

And just thinking about it

gives me the shakes more than liquor,

used to clean this open wound of nightmares in my head;

As a result, there were friendships torn and

these images of scorned graves of family members

crucified the retinas of my soul like Jesus

with black faces in white hoods.

K-K-K on their backs in Blood red;

White faces in black hoods with K-K-K on their backs in Crypt blue.

Racial stew boiled with a recipe for disaster.

Spending years mastering de baiting dreams

so death could see me Cuming;

and just like in bedrooms,

premature ejaculating is unsatisfactory.

Dining at Father Time's table has always been

a game of Russian roulette for me,

but how many cases of this scenario

have you seen...?

Since life is the disease of nature

we're all suffering from,

its not surprising killing sprees end with

the gun man as his last victim.

Like if he gone die why not take 20-40 souls with him.

Or with women who blindly date abusers,

playing ground beef with their faces

and his fists were the meat tenderizers;

Sure Chris, it "really" was a lapse of rage.

Yes. Most domestic violence doesn’t end with victim’s suicide to be free.

Though most females I know would be like,

"I'd shoot the motherfucker if he ever laid his hands on me!"

thing is you never truly know

what kind of demons bunk in silent chamber minds.

Silent screams line by line,

Silent smiles hide killer’s future crimes.

The number 13 for many has been associated with bad luck.

But I know of a poet, who goes by the name 13,

and every word he spits lifts the masses souls up.

So fuck a curse.

Like my man Essence said,

"The cost of dying is going up!"

As a writer if I run out of words worth

then my pens worth is worthless

I'm here today.

But tomorrow isn’t promised to me or you.

This Haunting numeral comes back to me again.

Seems like these words were 13 years in the making,

26 now, so this poem from the pen is out on probation.

After patiently waiting for some paper to explode on,

you can judge if you want, but like snitches in the hood,

with this page my ball point will just roll on;

Thinking this lyrical liquor won't hit ya brains liver

then your ass is so wrong.

No, this isn’t no self pity poem.

It’s an I wrote this for those who going through it with me poem.

Stones from these hands have never been thrown hastily

below the waist of me are the only stones I hold dear

Sometimes it seems like no matter how loud my voice does elevate

the pressure weights of common man have it feeling irrelevant

like sex to someone who's celibate and focused.

So I wonder how my mother feels bout me having suicidal thoughts, again.

Only this time Scratching cold blue blood ink into a page instead of her apt. walls,

signs of my own internal down fall b4 standing

as a man and

Arch goes my back while fielding out life

just manning UP so she can be proud of her lost son.

Managing life like Abraham for God when he sacrificed his son for the long run

Know that when I'm done and the last lines from these idle hands are written

And every writer that follows vision isn't too frost bitten to see,

feel and hear me will realize,

The open wounds of nightmare realities inside

was spoken to set both of us free.

Introducing Author Charae Lewis

Interview With Charae Lewis Author of Mil-Town's Finest
1.)  Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Charae Lewis and I’m from Milwaukee, WI. I enjoy shopping, reading and Makeup. My writing journey started in January of 2011.

2.) Where did the concept for “Mil-Town’s Finest” come from?

I was actually inspired by the TV show The First 48. Instead of the situation being between two men I decided to create it with two women. I observed how people were so quick to turn on their friends and family so I took that inspiration and penned Mil-Towns Finest.

3.) In the story, Natalya had a hard time letting go and forgiving, Do you know anyone similar to Natalya who may have this same problem or was there a different meaning behind her not being able to forgive other’s?
I know a lot of people who have a hard time letting go of the past and forgiving others. I wanted readers to know that forgiving someone is much bigger than you. It’s about regaining power over your life and moving on.

4.) So you have to let the reader’s know, were any of the characters in, “Mil-Town’s Finest”, real?
Most of the characters were just a figment of my imagination but I did pull certain characteristics from people that I know. There are some characters that do remind of certain individuals that I’ve encountered but for the most part they’re fictional.

5.) Reading Mil-Town’s Finest was an excellent enjoyment and took me out my comfort zone as well. But, where did the unique and creative title come from?
Mil-Town is actually the nickname of my hometown which is Milwaukee, WI. I just wanted to show my city a little bit of love so I chose Mil-Town’s Finest as the title.

6.) When did your passion for writing come about?
I’ve always been an avid reader so I was actually inspired by other authors to start my writing career. When I first started, it was a bit of a struggle because I despised English in high school but after getting the hang of it, I loved it.

7.) Do you have a specific writing style when you write your novels?
I usually start off with a character’s name then start my novel. I never use an outline and I never know how the book will end. I just write until I’m done with the story.

8.) Is there anything you find particularly challenging about your writing?
Sometimes trying not to repeat a story I’ve already written can be a challenge. I hate to sound redundant.

9.)  Could you let the reader’s and fan’s know what’s next for you and how to stay updated?
Hopefully more novels will be in the near future. If anyone wishes to contact me my email address is charaelewis@yahoo.com or www.facebook.com/public/Charae-Lewis
